  • Hippie Hippie Shake Wäinö Chopper. Kawa Vulcan 800cc.

    Moro.

I had a hard hippie chopper fever and the only "real cure" for it is to build such a chopper.
I bought a suitable Kawa Vulcan (Wäinö) 800cc -96 for it, quite cheap.
Kawa was cafe racer style build and really awful to drive.

After disassembling the unnecessary parts, it was ready to change shape.

At Solidworks, I modeled a girder fork to its current frame change. The trail seems to be ok.
Need to buy material. A pipe with a wall thickness 3-5mm is probably ok because otherwise the fork will become too heavy when the material is, for example 22mm iron shaft.

I designed a pic of my possible coming Chopper.
In the summer you can see what the end result looks like
So, next i have to move on to the practical work because there is still a lot of work to be done.

Last night i started making a proto model of a girder but i got really hungry and had to go home
Next time, I have a large number of snacks maybe the girder proto will be completed ready then.

cool looking upswept pipes on your mock up. when I made mine, I went to my local bike shop and dug through a bin of takeoff exhaust pipes. I was able to find the angles I wanted out of some old harley headers. welded em to my own headers and cocktails. I left them natural and hot blueClick image for larger version

I finally got the prototype girder fork ready.
I think it seems quite reasonable. The fork material will be 22x5 E355+C tubes.

Nice aluminum build fixture. Light, won't rust and spatter won't stick to it.

I made a 3mm walled hydraulic tube (22mm) model version of the girder fork.
The final version will be made of a stronger tube E355 22x5.
